Ask your MP to close the cold homes loophole

A landlord escaping through a loophole

From April, private landlords in England and Wales won’t be allowed to rent out the coldest homes. But there’s a loophole. Landlords won't have to improve their properties if that would cost them any money up front (yes, you read that right).

Closing the loophole means warmer homes and lower bills for hundreds of thousands of people - and big carbon cuts too. But there’s a lot more the government could do if they were serious about keeping you warm and tackling climate change.

Write to your MP asking them to close this loophole now to protect the most vulnerable and demand more ambition from the government on warm homes and climate change.

Your letter will have the most impact if you personalise it with details of your own experiences, and how much you could save.
