Ask your MP to close the cold homes loophole

A landlord escaping through a loophole

From April, private landlords in England and Wales won’t be allowed to rent out the coldest homes. But there’s a loophole. Landlords won't have to improve their properties if that would cost them any money up front (yes, you read that right).

If the government won't close the loophole, tenants could be left in the cold with a £1bn energy bill. This affects hundreds of thousands of people - particularly the most vulnerable.

If we can close this loophole, it'll mean warmer homes and lower bills for all those people, and huge carbon cuts too.

Write to your MP asking them to close the loophole and set a cost cap instead.
